When we reunited after so many years for the tour 2008 I asked him to play something/anything for me he chose, played and sang “Blackwaterside”. He instinctively knew it was my all time favourite; it made me cry.

That song will stay in my thoughts as a wonderful memory of Bert.

Following their triumphant 40th anniversary reunion tour in 2008, the original members of Pentangle: Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Jacqui McShee, Danny Thompson and Terry Cox – each one a legend in their own right – will reunite again to perform three special shows this summer. The band will appear at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday 25 June, as special guests at Cambridge Folk Festival on Saturday 30 July, and again at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Monday 1 August.

In addition, all five original members of Pentangle are currently working together on new material for the first time since they disbanded in 1973. The group also plan to release live recordings from the 2008 tour in the near future.

2008’s reunion tour was greeted with enormous and critical and popular acclaim:

5 stars – “It’s an absolute joy to have them back” – The Times
“Every bit as accomplished and successful as those [comeback concerts] performed by Cream in London three years ago … Pentangle’s music sounded as fresh, vital and inventive in 2008 as it did back then in the first summer of love” – Variety

In 2011 the original line-up of Pentangle play the following dates:

Sat 25 June: Glastonbury Festival

Sat 30 July: Cambridge Folk Festival

Mon 1 August: London, The Royal Festival Hall

Tickets for The Royal Festival Hall are available in person from the ticket office, Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XX; by phone on 0844 875 0073; or online at www.southbankcentre.co.uk

Formed in swinging ‘60s London, Pentangle were one of the most exciting and innovative groups in the world, genuinely pushing boundaries and exploring new musical avenues. Simultaneously stars of the underground and darlings of the mainstream, they enjoyed an unprecedented degree of worldwide success for an acoustic band and their influence and musical impact is still revered and relevant today.

“Pentangle still rule the roost” – The Times (9 February 2007)

“Forget Cream…or Led Zeppelin, this is the biggie: Pentangle is reforming” – The Guardian (19 January 2007)

“The Folk Beatles…The greatest and most adventurous acoustic ‘supergroup’ of their time” – The Word (April 2007)

“The godfathers of English folk music…unquestionably the core template for today’s blooming nu-folk scene” – Metro (23 March 2007)

“Pentangle was electrifying, particularly at a time of unprecedented free thinking in music. Together they created an intoxicating instrumental force” – Jazzwise (April 2007)

“Pentangle revolutionised 60s music” – MOJO (April 2007)

“One of the most experimental and influential bands of the Sixties” – The Sun (23 February 2007)

“Pentangle rewrote the Britfolk rulebook…America has nothing to match them” – The Daily Mirror (9 March 2007)

“Britain’s Grateful Dead” – The Guardian (16 March 2007)

During the recording of the double album “Sweet Child” I realised that all the other members had included solo tracks so Iset about doing one track myself.

Many year earlier I first heard some percussion work by “MOONDOG” recorded live on the street where he played every day in New York City. The material was of great interest to me as he used unusual time signatures.

When I was having drum lessons and since Iived outside London I traveled by train and listened carefully to the rhythm of the wheels in contact with the track which i tribute to listening to MOONDOG.

When I recorded my solo track i wanted to honour the great man so my wife Jill and I sat up all night to try to come up with something suitable. At the time i was unaware of his classical compositions some of which were recorded by the New York Symphony Orchestra.

In his personal life he was blind and traveled on foot across the City unaided dressed as a Viking and since te played on the corner of the street next to Carnegie Hall some of the musicians passed by and set up a performance of his work.

A few years ago Danny Thompson brought him over to England to present & record him.

Thanks Moondog for helping me understand the pleasure of other time signatures (there is more to music than 4 4 )

Best wishes Terry.

MOONDOG VERSUS TERRY COX – NO BRAINER!

I have been bipolar most of my life something that I inherited from my Mum. I did a concert here as I may have mentioned (failing memory) to inform people of this taboo subject. In my case I have black periods when I am unable to leave the house, think, speak, and have suicidal thoughts (jumped under a car once and was in hospital for 8 months). The damage to Jill and Morgan and Dylan is unimaginable. My condition is chronic so I will continue this way for life. Fortunately music has, together with treatment, saved my life. I am offering my story to the local bipolar society in the hope that it might help. The press have done several interviews with me but all in Catalan so cant send them sadly.

Best Wishes Terry.

In 2007 Pentangle were awarded a lifetime achievement honor which led to our 2008 tour of the UK. As the only member of the group who had never had a CD under my own name, I went ahead with my project which I have called Twice Upon A Time. This refers to my good fortune having had two chances in my career.

To cut to the chase I am hoping to reach publishers and record companies and post the music on the internet. I have had some interest but the music industry is not in good shape right now. I am currently playing with 3 groups and composing vigorously. One of the groups has been entered in a competition in Majorca so fingers crossed.
